OCEANS #searchforhope

What we share at Oceans Hope is a curiosity for the wonders of the natural world and a passion for telling stories that inspire people to care. That curiosity has grown into a mission beyond our client work: to explore whether there’s still hope for our oceans—and what that hope looks like in action.

From Germany to the Mediterranean, the Maldives, Madagascar, and the Seychelles, we met people restoring coral reefs, protecting marine life, and rethinking how they live with the sea. We filmed their stories—above and below the surface—not just to show what’s broken, but to highlight the change that’s already taking shape.

OCEANS #searchforhope is a documentary series about hope, passion, and the people driving real change today.

Episode 1

Daniel begins his search for the people who care about the oceans in a sea that he has been visiting regularly for years and that is one of the most popular vacation regions in the world: the Mediterranean Sea.

He visits his friends Petra and Berti on their catamaran the "LARGYALO". The two have been living on their ship for 14 years and know the coasts of the Mediterranean very well. During his dives, Daniel repeatedly notices how empty the Mediterranean Sea is.

To find out why this is the case and what solutions are available, he is meeting Brad and Yaiza from the SaveTheMed Foundation in Mallorca. In the marine reserves of Sa Dragonera and El Toro, Daniel experiences what an intact underwater world in the Mediterranean could look like - and it is breathtaking.

Episode 2

In the episode "1000 Islands, 1 Future," Daniel from Oceans Hope takes a behind-the-scenes look at the tourist paradise of the Maldives. He meets Hiyad and Hazim, two young Maldivians they got to know during a film shoot about a coral restoration project. Hiyad and Hazim provide insights into life in the Maldives, the challenges facing humans and nature, and the growing awareness among young people about local nature.

Episode 3

In the episode "Whales Sharks - Victims of their own popularity" Daniel visits the Maldives, where whale sharks in the marine protected area of the South Ari Atoll are increasingly threatened by tourism.

He meets Chloe and Clara from the Maldives Whale Shark Research Programme, which is dedicated to protecting whale sharks locally. Additionally, they engage in conversations with former island chief Ahmed Fais and Naushad, the island's first dive center owner.

These encounters provide insights into the current local situation and illustrate that the efforts of the Maldives Whale Shark Research Programme benefit the protection of whale sharks, promote sustainable tourism, and support the local community.

Episode 4

In the fourth episode of Oceans #searchforhope, Daniel travels to Ifaty in southwest Madagascar, where Emma and her organization Reef Doctor have been fighting for a stable livelihood for over 17 years.

Here, Daniel and Chris accompany Naturikie and Fiacre fishing, talk to the young marine biologist Sandra from Antanararivo and the women of the fishing cooperative RENEFEP to get as accurate a picture as possible of the situation on the ground, which in many places is characterized by poverty and hopelessness.

Episode 5

In the fifth episode of Oceans #searchforhope, Daniel dives into the fascinating underwater world around Fregate Island. There, the local conservation team is working to preserve the coral reefs.

For Daniel, it's also a reunion with Julie, who was the lead marine biologist on the island's coral restoration project a year earlier and featured in a film that Daniel and his colleague Chris produced together. Julie talks about her experiences on the island, the threat to the reefs from ocean warming and possible solutions.

In addition, Aki, founder of the NGO Coralive and co-initiator of the coral project, talks about his motivations for saving corals and his vision for the future.
